How Long Do Wisdom Teeth Take To Heal?

As answered before, it depends upon some conditions as the teeth were impacted or not, the tendency of removal, how much the gums damaged during surgery and so on. But a normal tooth extraction healing process may take 3 to 5 days (if you avoid smoking, alcohol, straw for drinking after others discussed in this article).

You shouldn't brush your teeth for the first day after wisdom teeth removal surgery. It is because, brushing your teeth may cause the blood clot to dislodge and may create other complications and problems like alveolar osteitis, infection etc. Hence delays the healing process up to 3 weeks. So, below are some wisdom teeth removal aftercare tips you must follow.

Smoking

As everyone knows, cigarette's contain a harmful ingredient called "Nicotine". Nicotine may reduce the blood supply to mouth and may cause the blood clot to dislodge partially or completely. The blood clot forms naturally after the tooth extraction (within the tooth socket). It helps to increase the healing process. If it dislodges due to any reason, it may cause infection, dry socket and so many other problems for you.

Alcohol

Avoid drinking alcohol, and other products contain alcohol. You should also avoid mouthwashes because they contain some harmful ingredients as well as alcohol.

Straw

Using straw for drinking water and other fluids may also fell you into problems. Sucking motion of mouth may cause a blood clot to dislodge and develops a dry socket or alveolar osteitis. Dry socket is the most painful condition.

Spitting out Excessively

Don't spit out excessively after wisdom teeth surgery. Just avoid spitting out and talking excessively.

Summary

You should drink cold water, eat ice cream and other soft foods to avoid dehydration and weakness. Also, avoid exercise for the first 3 days after surgery. In this article, I tried to explain all tips and instructions to avoid complications after wisdom teeth surgery. Also answered the most asked question, "How long do wisdom teeth take to heal?". So, if anybody wants to share his own experience or ask any further question related to our topic. He/she may comment this article. Thanks!

  1. One fruit I suggest to eat before getting your teeth pulled out is to eat pineapple because it dwindles down the swelling and you recover faster.
